Joe's so clear that people don't recognize how profound his insight is… he's had a pretty big influence on my political activity over the past 10 years & I've been pretty effective—securing real wins—so there's something to be said for that.
It feels like this conversation only makes sense if you ignore the past 10ish years of protest against police brutality. There's certainly lots of discussion to be had about cooption or effectiveness of those movements but to say those participants aren't organized or aren't engaged in politics doesn't make a lot of sense to me
Costello cracks me up. In a good way. I could gripe about how he throws all “boomers” under the same ugly “me generation” bus, but I’ll give him some slack. There weren’t many of us who despised everything our generation stood for, from fake hippiedom to yuppie self-centeredness to behaving like craven, status-chasing ostriches.
I was and still am a bad boomer, who hates almost all of us and won’t regret being the last barnacle hanging on to the sinking mothership.
Looking forward to listening to this but just wanted to add...
Everytime I listen to this podcast, I get that song stuck in my head all day and I love it lol.

I don't know if Joe would agree but his OF BY FOR book is a must read…

I listened to part of this one from the gym at the Elk’s Lodge in Redwood City, FYI. That one is still very much alive.
