THE AGE OF THE SELF-MADE MEDIA WHORE
NEFARIOUS RUSSIANS LIVE! in NYC
We’re doing our second live event in NYC at the KGB Bar — JOURNALISM IS DEAD. WELCOME TO THE AGE OF THE SELF-MADE MEDIA WHORE. June 22, 2025. 7PM. Get your tickets. (As always, haters welcome.)
Yasha and Evgenia are joined by veteran journalist Moe Tkacik — cofounder of Gawker’s Jezebel (which was destroyed by Peter Thiel) and now an investigations editor at The Prospect — to discuss a topic they know all too well: the death of journalism and the rise of the self-made media whore.
Political movements have collapsed, journalism has no power, nihilism is running high, and doom is near, but the influencers are doing well. They are at the center of our culture, inhabiting all platforms, riding the news cycle, doing strategic pandering, working for clicks and subs. Is there still hope?
Event will feature a surprise short film screening followed by a talk and Q&A.
PS: By popular demand we will have a break in the middle so that people can drink and mingle.

We, I mean me, need you two to take this event to Tulsa, OK I will attend, so please get your logistics team on it. Oklahoma awaits you. Thank you.
Why limit yourself to NYC, or Tulsa OK, when you could inspire the great minds of the oldest state in the union, median age-wise that is. Unfortunately, even the best planning won't get you here quickly because despite the license plate that says "Vacation Land," there's no easy way to get to and from Maine. The population density is low, as is attendance at most non-mandatory events, and venues are spaced hours apart across a landscape of endless trees, dirt roads, and mucky swamps. If all of that sounds attractive, perhaps stirring an overwhelming desire to see where the Appalachian Trail ends, then Maine awaits.
There's also Portland, but that's not really Maine. It's a suburb of Boston.
