Doing a bit of reading for Two Pigeons and I came across an interesting case of cultural appropriation: the Judenhut. By order Pope Innocent III Jews and Muslims had to start wearing special hats. That was in 1215. The point of it was so that there wouldn’t be accidental miscegenation between Christians and non-Christians.1 Without clear markings it appears that good Christian women were beddding Jews and good Jewish women were bedding Christians. It had to stop. Hence, the hat. Now no one would have an excuse. “Sorry father, I didn’t realize I was fucking a Christ killer! He looks just like my cousin…and the tongue on him! Will try better next time!” As time went on laws of this kind spread through Europe, although it’s not clear how uniformly they were enforced.
